Another type of stress related hair loss is called alopecia areata. This condition is brought on by intense stress that causes white blood cells to attack the hair follicles. This attack stops hair growth and causes the hair to fall out. This type of hair loss usually starts in a small round patch on the scalp, but it can spread to whole scalp. Hair will generally grow back once the stress issue is resolved, but it can take several months.
